This series is inspired by the work of Roy Lichtenstein. The subject is popular comic book characters and emotions. I believe part of the allure of comic books as always been their fantastic displays of raw human emotion.

However, for many years comics have been guilty of perpetuating emotional stereotypes. Until recently the male character is most often depicted as strong, confident and brave. Meanwhile the supporting female character is often just pretty and timid, often the scared or crying damsel in distress. These stereotypes have been reproduced in Lichtenstein's works as well. I hope to further combat these stereotypes by reversing the typical roles to the extreme - whether it's Superman crying over spilt tea, or Gwen Stacy losing her temper.

Hmm.. well isnt that a somewhat accurate stereotype if you think about it? I cant say that all guys are tough, though, but in most freak disaster type moments, girls are commonly seen running away screaming at the top of their lungs. and no, not just in comics..
I know alot of girls nowadays are trying to fight back and say it's not true, but realistically it seems like some kind of human nature is imbedded inside us that makes us do certain things in a tense situation. Most girls run in terror, and alot of guys keep their ground.. And i think it has something to do with how differently the sexes are raised. Most girls grow up feeling comfortable unleashing whatever emotions come to mind, while guys are raised to keep their emotions bottled up and cant be shown.. Therefore most (but not all) guys dont cry or scream like crazy in bad situations, whereas if a girl does it, nobody holds it against them.
